Airtel sponsors Millennium Marathon

Airtel Ghana has made presentations to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) as a title sponsor towards the organisation of the Millennium Marathon race to promote healthy lifestyles and the development of sports activities in the country.

The Marathon event, which would be taking place on September 5, seeks to inspire the youth and help unleash their potentials for development.

Mrs Lucy Quist, Managing Director Airtel Ghana, during the presentation said the event is a big undertaking as it would give the country a big sense of pride to showcase what a great city it has on a large scale in the sub- region.

The event which is currently on-going is in two phase, the first phase would be regional marathons, which would run across the nine regional capitals and the second phase would be the main and final event, which would see the five km run for the non-professional athletes and 21km run for professional athletes vying for the ultimate trophy.

Mrs Quist noted that aside the presentation, Airtel stands would be available at all the marathon locations to offer freebies to participants and spectators of the event.

She commended Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive and the AMA for the initiative which would bring Ghana to positive limelight.

Dr Okoe Vanderpuije expressed gratitude to Airtel Ghana for the sponsorship and called on other institutions to emulate what Airtel has done.

He said there is business in the event for all corporate institutions, even the hawker on the street adding that “it is a win, win affair for all”.

He encouraged all Ghanaians to use the lives the country lost to push for excellence and seek the best for the people of the citizenry to ensure that what happened on June 3, never repeats itself.

The next venue for the race would be in Ho.
