Airtel money crosses two million customer mark

Airtel Ghana, says the number of its registered mobile money customers has crossed the two million mark, representing a 25 per cent growth within two months.

A statement issued in Accra and copied to Ghana News Agency on Wednesday by Maame Dufie Cudjoe, Corporate Communications and External Affairs Manager Airtel Ghana, said the continuous rise in Airtel money subscribers is evidence that more people are embracing the concept of a cashless economy.

It also shows that customers have chosen Airtel’s simple, secure and instant mobile money platform to join the new era of mobile-commerce.

The statement said it amplifies the growing demand for Airtel Money because of its innovative and affordable products and services right from the inception of the mobile money service.

Airtel Ghana’s goal has been to propel Ghana into a cashless economy, improving security and the instantaneous delivery of financial transactions.

This surge in subscribers is an encouraging step towards the attainment of this goal,. It said.

The statement said Airtel Money has shown a lot of innovation, flexibility and security consciousness in its product offerings thus, the most recent being the introduction of Tap ‘N’ Pay, which enables customers to make payments with Airtel Money with just a tap of their mobile phones!

It noted that the Tap ‘N’ Pay is positioned as the smartest way to pay in Ghana since it helps customers to avoid long queues and the trouble of counting money.

Customers just need to get their free Airtel Money Tap ‘N’ Pay sticker from any Airtel Money shop and enjoy this smart payment solution from Airtel.

“The 2 million customer milestone goes beyond mere numbers. It shatters the myths about how to scale social innovation in banking to expand financial inclusion by offering a simple and affordable model to reach out to millions of Ghanaians who want to save or transact in a convenient, fast, reliable and affordable manner, to help them meet their daily needs,” said Hannah Agbozo, Director for Legal and Corporate Affairs.

It said users of Airtel Money could go to any one of its 13,000 registered agents, 500 merchant outlets, 80 shops that accept Airtel Money, seven partner banks and more than 215 ATMs nationwide to enjoy the smartest payment experience.

These and many more it stated are some of the structures put in place to accommodate and cater for the growing number of subscribers.
