Agona West MCE to establish educational fund

Agona Swedru, May 25, GNA - Mr Felix Jacob Obeng-Forson, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has reaffirmed his commitment to set up an Educational Foundation Fund to support needy, but brilliant children in the municipality to further their education. He said contributions from philanthropists, NGOs, well-to-do citizens and non citizens of Agona West, churches, youth organizations and funds raising activities are targeted to yield GHC10,000 seed money to set up the fund. He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to spell out his plans on the promotion of education after a thanksgiving service at the Agona Swedru branch of the First Baptist Church, on Sunday. Mr Obeng-Forson noted that there were a lot of brilliant children who due to financial difficulties of their parents could not pursue education.

He stated that education is the key to development so it was important to assist those children to access higher and quality education.

The MCE called on the corporate bodies, citizens of Agona West donor agencies to support the fund to achieve its aims and objectives. On Revenue mobilization by the Assembly, Mr Obeng-Forson said a taskforce would be formed to check leakages and others loopholes in the collection of the revenue to support the Assembly's Common Fund. He said for the assembly to get rid of filth in the Municipality, sanitary inspectors would be sensitized to effectively deal with the sanitation problem.

Mr Obeng-Forson pointed out that awards would be instituted for the neatest communities in the Agona West Municipality as part of effort ensure clean environments. He said to ease traffic congestion at the Municipality a new road linking Otabilkrom and Swedru Low Cost would be constructed.
