Africa submits Report on Corruption

Accra, Aug 31, GNA -Ghana on Tuesday said the committee of 11 African countries, of which she was a member, has submitted a report on how to combat corruption in African countries to Washington.

Mr Brian Sapati, Acting Director of the Serious Fraud Office, announcing this at a roundtable discussion on corruption organized by the Institute of Economic Affairs in Accra, said the report was at the request of the Global Coalition for Africa.

About 90 countries met in Washington DC in February at the invitation of Mr Al Gore, Vice President of the US on the subject. In a 25-point report the African countries called on their governments to demonstrate leadership and political will to combat and eradicate corruption.

The report said this was in consonance with the UN General Assembly's resolution on actions against corruption and those of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Organization of America States (OAS).
