Abudus And Andanis Fight Again

Four persons have been wounded due to stone throwing during a scuffle between the Abudus and the Andanis in Yendi yesterday. The situation was brought under control by the security personnel deployed in Yendi, but no arrest was made. All the four persons, three of whom are Andanis, are members of the Zohi-Na, Mahamudu Salifu's family. While the fourth person, an Abudu from the late Zohi-Na's family, was treated and discharged at the Yendi District Hospital.

The incident occurred in the morning before a government delegation team led by the General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, Brigadier George Aryiku, arrived at Yendi to assess the tempo of the security situation in Dagbon and to report back to the government.

The team was in Yendi to hold talks with the Abudus, the Andanis, the Kuga-Na (Overseer of Dagbon), and the Yendi District Security Committee (DISEC) in an effort to facilitate the peace process in the area. The Zohi-Na Salifu told the government delegation team that his life and members of his family have been threatened since the Yendi crisis started. He, therefore, appealed to Brigadier Aryiku to increase the number of security personnel at his palace to ensure his safety and that of his family. The chief also called on the government to improve the general security situation in Yendi to avoid the re-occurrence of the conflict.

Brigadier Aryiku advised people of Dagbon to learn to settle their misunderstandings peacefully, and those that they found difficult to resolve be reported to the police. He urged them to give peace a chance for the sake of their children, saying that any negative acts and reactions today would impact negatively on their children. At a similar meeting with the Abudus at the Bolin-Lana, Mahammadu Abdulai's house they appealed to the government not to lift the state of emergency now until absolute peace is restored in Dagbon.

On the Wuaku Commission's report, they expressed mixed feelings about the findings and recommendations of the report. According to them, they do not understand why the commission found both the Abudus and the Andanis wrong and right at the same time.
