A-G asked to act on STC issue

Parliament has directed the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice to investigate a petition presented to it by the workers of Intercity STC Coaches Limited and the Bulk Haulage Division of the STC.

A letter dated 4 March, 2004 and signed by the Deputy Clerk of Parliament, Mr. G. K. Agama, Parliament directed the AG to forward the findings of its investigations to the House as soon as practicable.

In the petition, which was dated 6 February 2004 and was presented to Parliament after a peaceful demonstration, the workers of company urged the House to restrain Vanef Consortium Limited from disposing off the assets of the Bulk Haulage Division.

Under the present structure of ownership, the majority shareholder, the SSNIT holds a 97 per cent equity share in Intercity STC Coaches Limited, whilst the minority shareholder, Vanef Consortium Limited, owns the remaining 3 per cent.
