A commercial bus belonging to OA Travel and Tours which was fully loaded with about 800 packets of Rio AAA and BB cartridges, has been impounded by the police.

The Accra-Techiman-bound bus, driven by one Kojo Billy, 47, was impounded on the Accra-Nsawam highway around 8:30 pm of Tuesday, July 21, 2015.

Kojo Billy, driver of the Man Diesel bus together with his 23-year-old (driver’s) mate identified as Abraham Yorke, are in police grips.

Another accomplice, identified as Alhaji Wenchi, who is believed to be the owner of the cargo – and supposed to receive it on arrival in Techiman – has also been busted, according to police reports.

The goods, which were on the bus with some passengers at the time the vehicle was intercepted, were off-loaded onto another vehicle before the former vehicle was towed to the premises of the Accra Regional Police Command.

Briefing the media, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Accra Regional Police Commander, said around 8:30 pm on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, the police personnel on duty at the Doboro barrier on the Accra-Nsawam highway upon intelligence, intercepted the OA bus with registration number AW 6758 – 12 on its way to Techiman.

When a search was conducted on the bus, the police retrieved 800 packets of Rio AAA and BB cartridges concealed in the luggage compartments of the bus.

He said upon interrogation, Kojo Billy claimed his mate, Abraham Yorke, loaded the goods onto the vehicle without his knowledge.

Billy narrated that a certain Alhaji Wenchi of Techiman was to receive the whole cartridges on arrival at Techiman.

DCOP Yohuno posited that his outfit quickly liaised with its counterparts in Techiman and the said Alhaji Wenchi was apprehended early yesterday morning.

The police officer said the exhibits had been kept by the police as investigations continued.

“The two suspects have also been detained to assist with further investigations,” he added.
