38 Contest 13 Seats In E/Region Bye-Elections

Koforidua, -- 9 June Thirty-eight candidates are contesting 13 vacant seats in eight districts of the Eastern Region in tomorrow's district assembly bye-elections. Five candidates for five electoral areas have already been returned unopposed, according to the Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Kofi Arhin in Koforidua today. The five included Mr Sebastian Okyere Abankwa and Mr Samuel Bright Boateng for the Christian Quarters and Burukuwa electoral areas respectively in the Kwahu South District, Mr G. T. Twimdzoe Okletey for Mampong-Odumase in Manya Krobo, Mr Nicholas Kophie Aglago for Old Mangoase in the Akwapim North and Mr Emmanuel Mawuvi Fiadzigbe for the Dzedeka-Frankadua in the Asuogyaman Districts. Mr Arhin said the electoral areas being contested for include Abanse and Odumasi South in the Manya Krobo, Aboabo in Birim South, Jamaica/Paul Kuma in Akwapim North, Opersika in Yilo Krobo and Apegusu and Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL) in the Asuogyaman District. The rest are Suokwaw in West Akim, Beposo-Asuom, Larbikrom, Abasam-Besease and Awosoa-Akwatia, all in the Kwaebibrim District and Otwereso in Birim North. According to Mr Arhin, all the electoral materials including posters and ballot papers reached the districts centres last Friday.
