A former mayor of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, has said the way and manner the 9th National Delegates Congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been organised indicate that the party is poised for victory in the 2020 general elections.

The Ablekuma South MP told journalists on Saturday, 17 November on the sidelines of the Congress at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra that: “The NDC will win the 2020 elections and I will also retain the parliamentary seat for the party given the way we have conducted ourselves.”

Former President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to support any candidate that wins the flag bearer contest slated for December 2018.

“We have begun our journey back to the Flagstaff House, and on my part, I can confidently promise you that I shall continue to provide the needed support and encouragement to the party on that journey and it would not matter who the flag bearer of our party is,” Mr Mahama said in an address to the delegates at the Congress grounds.

Mr Mahama will be competing against a raft of aspirants including former mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu; former Minister of Trade and Industries, Ekow Spio-Garbrah; former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Prof Joshua Alabi; former CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority, Sylvester Mensah; former Central Regional Minister, Kweku Ricketts-Hagan; former aide to Mr Rawlings, Goosie Tanoh; Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin; legal practitioner Elikplim Agbemava; businessman Nurudeen Iddrisu and Handyman Stephen Atubiga.
