2014 a “difficult year” but we’re hopeful - Dr. Bawumia

The 2016 vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has described 2014 as “a difficult year” for Ghanaians, but remains hopeful the years ahead will bring joy.

Ghana suffered and continues to suffer erratic power supply due to a shortfall in gas supply from Nigeria, low level of water in the Akosombo Dam coupled with other technical glitches. On the labour front, the government grappled with labour agitations as well as demonstrations and awareness lectures aimed at exposing corruption in government under the aegis of pressure groups.

The Mahama-led administration sort refuge at the International Monetary Fund for a three-year bailout programme aimed at salvaging the ailing economy as the local currency – the Ghana Cedi – struggles against major legal tenders.

President John Mahama has given the assurance all will be well this year.

In his New Year message to Ghanaians, Dr Bawumia said “we are filled with the hope that our best years as a Nation and a people are ahead of us.

“Happy New Year Everyone & may 2015 come along with all we hope and pray for. God Bless Us All.”
