11 NSS Top Men Sent On Leave

Eleven officials of the National Service Scheme (NSS) are to proceed on leave with immediate effect. They are the 10 regional co-coordinators and a senior official at the head office. They are said to have been in active service for more than 20 years without going on leave.

The Director of the National Service Scheme, Boniface Adagbila Gambila gave the directive in Accra. The affected officials are William Amegbletor, Greater Accra Region; Kwesi Quainoo, Central; Ken Gyamfi, Western and K.K. Adjei Mensah, Eastern region.

The rest are E. Aarah Bapah, Upper West; Charles Ayoung, Upper East, Imoro Alhassan, Northern; Tentumi Asare, Volta; N. Antwi Frempong, Upper East and Sackey Akomeah, Brong-Ahafo Region.

Also to proceed on leave is Kotey Nikoi of the head office in Accra. A letter to that effect copied to the Minister of Education and the Chairman of the NSS Board read in part that “all Regional coordinators who have not enjoyed their annual vacation for sometime now, are advised to enjoy such opportunities with effect from Friday, October 18.

Mr. Gambila told the Times that principal officers of the scheme have been assigned to take acting responsibility as coordinators for the regions until further notice. He said the move is in accordance with directives from the National Service Board to effect changes at all levels of the NSS structure in a manner that would enhance capacity building necessary for quality service. The exercise also forms part of some interventions initiated to make the scheme better placed to achieve its purpose.
