10 Villages Earmarked for Rehabilitation

The Department of Rural Housing has embarked on a pilot programme to help rural people to rehabilitate their dilapidated houses writes Emmanuel Mezikpih for the Daily Graphic.

In the first phase of the programme code-named "Model Villages" erosion will be checked for in 10 selected villages. Mr S. Y. Effah, Director of the Department who disclosed this said an amount of 73 million cedis has been voted for the project. The beneficiary villages are Odumasi in the eastern Region, Doryumu in the Greater Accra Region and Dzodze in the Volta Region. Others are Mokwaa (Central Region), Tetrem (Western Region), Hwireso (Ashanti), Akrodie (Brong-Ahafo), Daloyili (Northern), Kaleo (Upper East) and Yikini (Upper East).

22 personnel drawn for the 10 regions have been trained by the School of Engineering of the University of Science and Technology to offer technical assistance. He said in the five-year project, two villages in 20 selected districts will benefit from the programme yearly.
