10 Industries in 10 regions in 10 years - Nduom

President Kufour?s pre-election promise of creating industries to absorb the unemployed and give meaning to the vast natural resources of the country may be reflected in plans to establish at least one industry in every region next year.

According to Minister for Economic Planning and Regional Cooperation, Paa Kwesi Nduom who made the disclosure during the climax of the celebrations marking the Okyir festival of the people of Anomabu in the Central region, it would be a fulfillment the government?s desire to help create jobs.

Also, all factories and industries that are not operational would be revived. The ingredient is a national support for the government?s policies because the government is determined to ensurea fair distribution of the national cake.

Minister Nduom who did not seem to appreciate how a region so endowed with natural resources like the Central region could be so poor, urged the assemblies to be innovative in exploring ways of improving the situation while parents make additional efforts also send their children particularly girls to school.

Dr Ndoum promised the Mfantseman district one billion cedis as its share of the HIPC Relief Fund and challenged the people to ensure that the money achieves a goal.

District Chief Executive Kofi Wilson who pledged to put the one billion cedis to judicious use, said the district?s share of the HIPC Relief Fund would be used to construct Day Care Centres, KVIPs and potable water systems.

President of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), Mrs. Gifty Affenyi-Dadzie, appealed to citizens to help in developing the area, adding, ?Anomabu deserves your help. It is not enough to bask in the past glory of the town and always count the number of historical personalities the traditional area has produced?.
