Former NUGS Chief Justice supports Ndukwe's case against EC disqualification

A former National Union of Ghana Students Chief Justice, Moses Baafi Acheampong has added his voice to the growing calls for justice for Wisdom Ndukwe, an aspirant in the 2020 Elizabeth Frances Sey Hall JCR whose dramatic exit from the race has ended up in a legal tussle at the UGSRC Judicial Board.

According to Moses, who was once the Vice President of the University of Ghana Students Representative Council, the aspirant in question has every right to pursue his legal rights under the current system of student governance.

He says that the peculiar way in which Wisdom Ndukwe was ditched by his running mate was a very familiar tactic that is used by some political actors to destabilize candidates they see as a threat.

In a recent essay authored by the former SRC Vice President making rounds on some social media platforms, he narrated how some individuals tried to use the same tactic to eliminate his team when he decided to run for the SRC Presidency with Daniel Otting Awuah.

“When I decided to run with Levelz in 2017, a group of guys approached me and promised to give me a cheap GHc 5,000.00, Local NUGS president and subsequently push me for National NUGS president if I withdrew from the race to support Kumi and Boadi so that Levelz who had worked for about 2 years and was a competitor would be forced to exit the race,” said Moses in the post.

He further cautioned students against trying to discourage their fellow colleagues who decide to seek justice through the legal processes and said that the case may become a landmark case that will guide future students’ elections at the University of Ghana.

“This is a landmark case and so let’s allow the adult Wisdom to go through it as he wants…if he wants to discontinue that’s up to him. If he is successful with his suit then we will know that the Supreme Court of the UGSRC has ruled out such wicked schemes and injustice. Till Isaac Agyemang; (UG SRC President) went to court, the vetting panel was allowed to disqualify but he refused to be a timorous soul and he got justice.”

The hearing of the substantive appeal case of WISDOM NDUKWE v. THE PRESIDENT OF ELIZABETH FRANCES SEY HALL AND OTHERS 2020 is slated for 7 pm, March 9, 2020.

An earlier injunction granted Saturday, March 7, 2020, has caused a postponement of this year’s 2020 Elizabeth Frances Sey Hall JCR which was slated for today, March 9, 2020.
