Chiefs form team to settle disputes

Awutu-Mankessim, Nov 30, GNA - Three divisional chiefs and members of the Awutu traditional council have constituted themselves into special land and chieftaincy disputes settlement team to thrash out of court all outstanding land and chieftaincy disputes in the area.

They are, Nai Kwao Otuo V, Nai Kwapai Obeng II, and Nai Kukubeng II.

Disclosing this to the press at Awutu-Mankessim over the weekend, Nai Otuo, who is the chairman of the team said the move was designed to reduce chieftaincy and land disputes in the traditional set up and ensure socio-economic progress of the people.

This is because those involved would no longer use moneys being utilized to pursue the numerous chieftaincy and land cases currently pending before the courts but rather use such funds on the education of their children and other development- oriented programmes.

Confirming the move at Awutu- Bontrase and Awutu-Akrapong where Nai Kwapai Obeng and Nai Kukubeng live respectively, the two members of the settlement group maintained that the idea was meant to bring peace and unity among the disputed factions.

Meanwhile, the group had started deliberating on some of the cases out of court and expressed the hope achieving good results.
