Some residents of Zogli Lamakara in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital, have assaulted staff of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) who delivered letters to people that illegal connected their houses to the national grid.

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicates that Iddrisu Ibrahim allegedly slapped a staff of NEDCO when he was served with a letter from the company while another person, known as Coolio, also threatened to teach staff of the company a bitter lesson if they returned to the area.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NEDCO, Alaasan Abaaba, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said the case had been reported to the police.

Mr. Alaasan Abaaba stated that normally, NEDCO disconnects the erring customer immediately and calls on him or her to follow up to the office to discuss the payment of the penalties.

He indicated that the culprits in the area never showed up at the NEDCO office so they decided to deliver the letters to them at their various homes.

Mr. Abaaba appealed to customers in the Northern region to desist from power theft, saying they would only deprive other customers’ access to electricity.

A source at the police indicated that a bench warrant had been for Iddrisu Ibrahim and Coolio to appear before a court.
