Two hundred million cedis day-care centre inaugurated

Aboabo-Camp (C/R), July 31, GNA - A 200-million-cedi day-care centre has been inaugurated at Aboabo-Camp, a major cocoa growing community in the Assin District.

It has three classrooms, an office and store, a teacher's common room, sleeping and washrooms.

Kuapa Kokoo Limited (KKL), a Licensed Cocoa Buying Company, built the centre.

Mr Karikari Appau, Assin District Chief Executive, told parents when inaugurating the project to take advantage of it to secure a good pre-school education for their children.

"We do not want to see a situation where this beautiful structure constructed at a huge financial cost would become a white elephant due to the reluctance of parents to put their children in."

Mr Appau reminded the people that the most treasured investment they could bequeath to their children was sound formal education. He said work would soon start on the rehabilitation of the 7.5-kilometre Aboabo-Camp-Aworoso feeder road to speed up evacuation of cocoa and food crops from the area. Nana Kwadwo Appiah-Kubi, Chairman of the Company, said as a farmer's co-operative their main focus was to assist to improve the living conditions of farmers.

He said it was for this reason that the Company was building schools, providing good drinking water, sanitation facilities and installing corn mills and palm-oil processing machines for women groups in areas of its operation.

Nana Appiah-Kubi appealed to the community to see to it that the structure was kept in good condition at all times through regular maintenance.

Mr Asare Tsiboe, the Local President of the Company, said through deductions of two kilograms on each bag of cocoa sold by farmers in the community they have mobilised 10 million cedis to set up a welfare fund. From this they grant loans to farmers in times of need.
