Bees kill 7-year-old

A quest to taste rat meat has resulted in the shocking death of a seven-year-old boy.

Ali was reportedly stung to death by a horde of angry bees on Sunday morning whilst hunting for rats in a bush at Nebehi Apuoyem.

Evans 9, and Kwabena, 8, who accompanied Ali for the hunting expedition sustained injuries after the wild bees’ attack.

The deceased, who was a Muslim, was buried Sunday afternoon by his family in accordance with his religion.

Evans and Kwabena, whose conditions were critical, were said to be responding to treatment at Afari Community Hospital.

Nana Kwasi Kyere, an eyewitness, said the three boys left their homes to hunt for rats that fateful morning.

He said the boys spotted a rat in a hole under a tree so they lit fire at the mouth of the hole with the hope that the heat would force the rodent out.

Unfortunately for the young and innocent lads, the smoke which emanated from the fire got to the bees that were on top of the tree.

The bees, which were probably disturbed by the smoke, then charged on the three boys, stinging them from all directions.

The young lads ran helter-skelter, crying bitterly, with the angry bees chasing them and stinging them with more venom.

The wailing of the boys attracted some farmers who rushed to the scene and rescued them. They looked frail when they were saved from the bees.

Ali died on the way whilst they were being sent to the hospital.

Another eyewitness, Thomas Awuah Asem, said news of bee attack on the young lads had shocked the people in the area.

According to him, he didn’t remember the last time bees attacked and killed anyone in the area. He described Ali’s death as sad.
