Youth receive start up kids for COTVET programme

Thirty-six youth who completed their Junior High School education but could not continue to the second cycle due to financial constrains, have been enrolled on to the Council for Technical and Vocational Education (COTVET) programme.

The apprenticeship programme was instituted by the Ministry of Education.

Presenting startup kits to the beneficiaries who will receive practical training for one year in dress making, hair dressing, auto mechanic and electronics, Mrs. Christina Cobbinah, Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa Nsueam, thanked the government for the programme.

She said the programme would be piloted in Tarkwa for the first batch after which the other communities would be considered.

Mrs. Cobbinah appealed to the beneficiaries to exhibit seriousness adding that, the assembly was prepared to do all it could to ensure that unemployment rate among the youth within the assembly is reduced.

Mrs. Catharine Davis, the Municipal Director of Education, said the Ministry of Education had provided a register which will be marked daily by the trainers to check attendance. **
