Contributors to radio programmes asked to be circumspect in their language

Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, Omanhene of Techiman, has appealed to contributors to FM radio stations programmes to be mindful and circumspect in their language.

He said contributions should rather be based on issues that would sustain peace and tranquility that Ghanaians have been enjoying for the past years.

Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw made the appeal at the climax of the ‘Apoo’ festival of the chiefs and people of Techiman, held at the forecourt of the Ohene Ameyaw Palace at the weekend.

This year’s festival was on the theme: “Tolerance, a key to stability and development in a democratic state,” and the celebration was to give opportunity for the people to freely express their views and sentiments through songs to the authorities.

The Omanhene recounted that the Techiman Traditional Area was one of the kingdoms that embraced democracy before the white men arrived in the Gold Coast (now Ghana).

He called on the chiefs and elders to allow the people to express their views to enhance consensus building.

Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw reiterated the need for Ghanaians to tolerate each other’s views, especially as the nation approached the December 2012 Election.

He advised aggrieved members of political parties to follow the due process of the law to address issues rather than resorting to violence.

“If we tolerate each other’s views, the nation will continue to enjoy the stability and development that we are enjoying”, Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw noted.

Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, who represented the Government and the party, called on political party agents assigned to polling stations, to follow guidelines of the Electoral Commission.

He urged the people to remain calm and rekindle the spirit of unity and co-existence.

Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah donated two bottles of whisky, two crates of soft drinks, two crates of Guinness and GH¢5,000 to the traditional council towards the celebration of the festival. **
