Disturbing signals reaching THE SUN newspaper which have been corroborated by senior Police Officers of the Ghana Police Service have established that, Police personnel whose duty it is to protect life and property in the country have rather consistently snubbed and refused postings to Gomoa Fetteh and Dominase in the Central region.
THE SUN’s Police sources have revealed that the personnel who were posted to the two Gomoa towns in the last three years, have all deserted leaving only three Police personnel at post.
The paper gathered that in the last three years, most of the personnel who were transferred and posted to both Fetteh and Dominase reported to duty all right, but after examining the area of posting they abandoned post claiming they were going to their former places to clear their desks and bring their wives and children over, only to return no more.
Police insiders told THE SUN that most of them considered the area a Siberia because, there are no major roads connecting the towns where thriving commercial activities are almost non-existent. Yet again the transport industry was almost nil for which reason mounting barriers to check drivers was a non-starter.
THE SUN gathered that years back, Gomoa Fetteh used to have 13 Police personnel at post with a population of about 1500 yet today, the people now have only two Police personnel at post that consists of a Corporal and a Constable.
The third officer, a Chief Inspector who was in charge of the skeletal staff was transferred only last week.
The story of Gomoa Dominase which has a population of about 2000 people is no different from that of Fetteh. Sad to relate, the town which used to boast of a significant Police presence now have two personnel manning the station.
THE SUN has cited countless complaints to the Central regional Police commander to act on the problem, yet no positive action has been taken to rescue the problem.
