JHR organizes workshop for journalists at Takoradi

Takoradi, Nov. 1, GNA - Journalists for Human Rights (JHR), a Canadian media development non-governmental organisation, on Monday organized a one-day workshop on human reportage for journalists at Takoradi.

Topic discussed included human rights and how they affect the work of journalists, importance of reporting on human rights and ethics in reporting on human rights.

Ms Jessica McDiarmid of JHR who was the facilitator, said the JHR partners with media houses to promote human rights. "We have worked with the local press in Ghana since 2003 to increase and improve human rights reportage", she said.

Ms McDiarmid said it is the work of journalists to report human rights abuses but they should be objective in their reportage. She said journalists should serve as the mouthpiece for the voiceless when human rights are violated so that other parties could come out with their side of the story.
