Ho Jan. 6, GNA-The Volta Region has recorded 32 arrests in connection with 26 armed robbery cases in 2009 as against 31 cases and 12 arrests in 2008.

The Volta Regional Police Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. David Ampah-Bennin who disclosed this to Ghana News Agency in Ho said four suspects in the ECO Bank robbery in Madina Accra were arrested near the OLA Secondary School in Ho following a tip-off. Seven suspects were similarly arrested in connection with a robbery at the Mepe Rural Bank in the South-Tongu District. Mr. Ampah-Bennin said five suspects were arrested in connection with the Nkwanta Highway robberies while a Nigerian and Cameroonian were arrested on the Accra Sogakope Highway for robbery.

He attributed the successes to stringent security measures such as day and night patrols and cooperation from the public adding: "We are always on the road 24hours" Mr. Ampah-Bennin said his administration was determined in its resolve to rid the region of hardened criminals so people can go about their businesses in peace.

He called for greater co-operation from the public in the New Year in the fight against criminals. ''If you sit on information, you sit on the security of the region'' he asserted.
