Ghanaians must support government to perform - DCE

Busunya, (B/A), Dec. 31, GNA - Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Dwomoh, Nkoranza North District Chief Executive, has called on Ghanaians, irrespective of party affiliation, to support the Government to perform its duties to move the country forward.

He called on religious bodies to pray for long life, wisdom and strength for President John Evans Atta Mills and members of his administration to enable them to effectively govern the country. Mr Adjei-Dwomoh was addressing a cross-section of the people at his residence at Busunya, the district capital. "The development of Ghana does not rest on only the politicians but on the collaborative efforts of all the people," he said. The DCE urged the youth not to allow partisan politics to divide them but should forge ahead in unity.

He said the youth should support the government to initiate and complete programmes that would ensure an improvement in their lives. Mr Adjei-Dwomoh said President Mills was determined to work hard to address the challenges the country faced and fulfill the campaign promises made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He pledged that the District Assembly would undertake a number of development projects in the communities to enhance the development of the new district.

The projects would include the renovation of dilapidated school buildings, the rehabilitation of feeder roads and the re-construction of broken down bridges.

Mr Adjei-Dwomoh said the bridge across River Tanfi at Tianfiano Number One on the Nkoranza-Kintampo Highway, which had become a death trap, would be reconstructed.

He said on December 28, 2002, 23 members of the Kintampo branch of Apostles Continuation Church perished when their vehicle plunged into the river. Mr Adjei-Dwomoh said the government had decided to tar the road from Tankor to Boabeng and Fiema to boost tourist attraction at the monkey sanctuary.

Mr Adjei-Dwomoh said the Assembly was seeking support from the GETFund towards the provision of school buildings in very deprived communities of the district.

The Assembly is also liaising with the Ministry of Education to upgrade the Busunya Community Day Senior High School into a boarding institution to increase intake, he said. Mr Adjei-Dwomoh said the Assembly would gather resources to organize an awards ceremony for teachers next year to boost their morale for improved standard of education. 31 Dec. 09
