Municipal Best Farmer salutes workers on 'May Day'

Akim Swedru (E/R), April 30, GNA - A municipal best farmer has appealed to the government to prepare suitable packages for farmers such as housing schemes, scholarships and the re-introduction of subsidies to boost the farming and fishing industry.

Mr. Emmanuel Duah, 2007 Birim Central Municipal best farmer, was congratulating workers ahead of the 'May Day' that falls tomorrow. "I salute, without any reservations, our gallant workers on this auspicious occasion and ask you to fight poverty with passion and professionalism for lasting results", he told the GNA in an interview. Mr. Duah said the importation of maize and rice into the country implied that no rpt no serious attention was being paid to the agriculture and appealed to it to institute measures to reverse the trend.

"The government must be in a position to encourage workers and farmers throughout the country to produce large quantities of food at reasonable prices," he said.

He, however, reiterated his appeal to the government for the re-introduction of subsidies on farming and fishing inputs to cut down the cost of production for farmers and fishermen.
