Baffour Awuah's Triumphant Entry To Hometown

Space FM, Nsoatre - The entire Nsoatre town shook to its very foundation when the Brong-Ahafo regional minister, Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah-an aspiring NPP parliamentary candidate for the Sunyani West Constituency, made a triumphant entry into his home town on Easter Monday.

The journey from Sunyani which was organised by Friends Of Baffour Awuah-(FOBA), was to officially launch his campaign to retain the seat for the NPP, since veteran legislator, Hon. Kwadwo Adjei Darko, who has been the MP for the area for twelve has announced his retirement from parliamentary service. And just as the saviour Jesus Christ was gloriously ushered into Jerusalem, so was Hon. Baffour Awuah graciously ushered into Nsoatre in a convoy. But for the absence of the Electoral Commission, which has the mandate to declare elections result, any one who was at or near Nsoatre would have rightly said Hon. Baffour Awuah had been coronated as the new MP for Sunyani West. From the length and breadth of the Brong-Ahafo region and some parts of the country came almost every important personality to witness and support the launch of the parliamentary campaign of one of Ghana's young, dynamic and astute politicians. By the time Hon Baffour Awuah breezed into Nsoatre, the conclusion had been reached - Baffour Awuah is the best person to take over from Hon. Adjei Darko. It was therefore not surprising at all when Professor Ameyaw Akumfi, the Ports, Habours and Railways minister, suggested to the other parliamentary aspirants in the constituency to humbly suspend their ambitions and rather join forces with Hon. Baffour Awuah. "If the people gathered here are all supporters of Baffour Awuah, then I would humbly advise any one contesting the primaries to rethink his or her decision since it appears Baffour Awuah is the overwhelming choice", the Professor said. He added that "this is a party matter and it should not be difficult to reach an agreement on who our parliamentary candidate should be". The Minister of State at the ministry of Interior, Nana Obiri Boahen said Baffour Awuah has proven over the years that he is the man to carry the constituency on his shoulders to higher heights. He urged the "delegates to vote for some one who is a ministerial material so that the region will have more ministers in the Nana Akuffo Addo’s Cabinet. Nana Obiri Boahen who is aspiring for Sunyani East Constituency argued that ever since Baffour Awuah burst on the political scene, he has never looked back and has been a man of vision for the party. The Deputy Brong-Ahafo regional minister, Nana Kwadwo Kwaakye, the former Brong-Ahafo regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Kwadwo Yeboah Fodjour and the Deputy minister for Lands, Forestry and Mines, Mr. Adjei Yeboah all took their turns to rally support for Hon. Baffour Awuah.The president of the National Supporters Union, and highlife musician, Aboagye Dascosta and former Black Stars player and the Atipimhene of the Berekum Traditional Area, Nana Gyau Gyan III, were all there to lend their support. The clergy, identifiable groups, the business as well as the international communities were equally represented. Then moment everybody had waited for, came when Hon. Baffour Awuah was introduced to address the gathering. But before he could do so, a woman came from among the crowd and rubbed his shoes with a white cloth. Instantly, the crowd recalled another biblical incidence when a woman anointed the feet of Jesus. Hon. Baffour-Awuah tasked party members to conduct the electioneering campaign based on policies and issues introduced by the government to help alleviate the plight of the people.

He said the NPP is poised to capture all the parliamentary seats in the region and called on the party members not to be complacent but rather to work extra hard towards an overwhelming victory. Hon.Baffour-Awuah warned that voting the National Democratic Congress back to power would spell doom for the country as it has nothing better to offer Ghanaians.

He appealed to party members to avoid campaigns of insults and defamatory statements, saying such attitudes have the tendency to create confusion that could mar the elections. The Regional Minister said he has served in the government for a long time and has acquired the experience to represent the people in parliament satisfactorily and urged the electorate to approve his candidature.
