Barclays Bank refurbishes school

Accra, Nov. 16, GNA - The Treasury Department of the High Street Branch of the Barclays Bank Ghana has refurbished the Street Academy School, located in Accra at a cost of GH=A24,000 as part of activities marking its annual "Make a Difference Day" celebrations. The refurbishment package comprised the painting of the school, partitioning of classrooms, replacement of classroom boards, electrical fittings, provision of electric fans, and a donation of 20 desks. Presenting the desks on Friday in Accra, Mr. Simon Dornoo, Treasury Manager, said the Bank had a long-standing relationship with the school. "We have been making donations for the past five years and this year, we decided to refurbish the school so that the children can study in comfort. Our aim is to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children. The better the community the more our business grow," he said.

Miss Joana Ofori, Project Co-ordinator who received the desks on behalf of the school, said the gesture had made the children happy after realising that society had not forgotten them. She said the school had acquired a land at Ayalolo near the Timber Market for a new school and appealed for assistance towards the project. 16 NOV 07
