Three children drown in Eastern Region

Two children aged 7 and 10 respectively have drowned in a well at Adeiso in the Upper West Akim district of the Eastern Region.

Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the incident to MyNewsGh.com, revealed that it occurred on Monday, March 19, 2018.

According to him, parents of the deceased, one Kwasi Nyarko and Bright Asante came to the station and reported that at about 5:30 pm their daughters; Rita Obeng aged 10 years and Stella Opare aged 7 years went to the well to fetch water and they got drowned in the process.

The police followed them to the scene, retrieved the bodies and rushed them to the Nsawam Government Hospital but they were pronounced dead on arrival.

The according to Chief Inspector N.K Anthony who is an investigator in the case, the bodies have been deposited at the hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

ASP Tetteh added that the incident comes exactly a day after a 10-year-old boy drowned in similar fashion when he went to swim in an abandoned galamsey pit at Morsu.

His body has been deposited at the Kyebi Government Hospital awaiting an autopsy.
