Tension brewing at Ada Foah over attempts to impose new chief on community

Tension is brewing at Ada Foah, a farming community in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra region, over plans by some individuals with the alleged support of the government machinery to impose a new chief on the people of the area, whiles the remains of the late chief of the area is yet to be laid to rest.

According to the acting the Mankralo for the area, Asafoatse Keke Zormabi, they are being compelled to arm and defend themselves since the police have taken side over the matter.

Addressing a press conference in Ada Foah, Asafoatse Keke Zormabi, who was flanked by some council members, could not hide his frustration over the attempts by some individuals who he alleged have the backing of the District assembly and some elements in government to impose on them a new chief at the expense of the current peace being enjoyed in the area.

According to him, the said individual who is being groomed to take over the stool from the late chief of the area, Nene Nanor Dugbatey Tetteyga V, who is yet to be buried, is not an indigen of the area.

He claimed the rightful gate amongst the 13 gates in the area, to present a new person for consideration of a chief is the the Dugbatey family.

Asafoatse Kekeh Zomarbi added that despite a court injunction being placed on any attempt to install a new chief, the police in the Ada district have allowed themselves to be compromised.

He warned that they will resist any attempts by any group of persons to jeopardise the peace being enjoyed in the area for their selfish gains.

Meanwhile, the Ada Foah traditional council has dissolved the incumbent cabinet of the late Chief to pave way for the formation of a new cabinet to oversee the day to day affairs of the traditional council.

The outgoing council, however, has also been instructed to present accounts for all bank accounts of the council, accounts on sale of stool and family lands and also all agreement made in relations to land acquisition and lease.
