Old students group of ZICO cuts sod for the construction of Main Entrance Gate!

September 17 2016, Anloga, Volta Region: Members of the 1982 Alumni (Aluta Group) of Zion Secondary School Anloga cut sod to build an ultra-modern Gate for their Alma mater. The project to be undertaken by the group is estimated to cost Thirty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 30,000.00.)

The gate would be manned to control both human and vehicular traffic through the main entrance of the school. The two lane gate would be separated by a security booth which would allow two vehicles moving in and out of the school premises at the same time. Request for the gate was made by the school authorities sometime last year due to the volume of stray animals and people using the school premises as a short cut thereby disturbing the peace of students at lectures and other school activities.

In attendance at the launch of the construction were the Municipal Director of Education, current Headmaster of the School, Mr. M.K.D Kukuia, members of the 1982-year group popularly called 'Aluta Group' led by its chair, Mr. Jonathan Azasoo, who is also a Deputy Director at the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) Accra, some old students and others.

The Headmaster, Mr. Kukuia commended the association for its support to the development of the school and urged them to continue to contribute to the infrastructural development of the school. The headmaster also spoke about the progress of the school academically and noted that there is a steady rise in the passing grade and rate of students. He informed the audience that the best aggregate in 2015 was 10 and that of 2016 was 8. He also made mention of the rise in the achievements in sports competition. In 2015, the school was first in the district but was second to KETASCHO this year. Mr. Kukuia spoke about the dire need of infrastructure development and asked the old student Associations to continue to assist the school. A new boys' dormitory is stagnant at the foundation for many years now leading to overcrowding, the headmaster lamented! Currently, the school is building a sick bay for students through their internally generated funds. "Lack of assembly hall has compelled us to hold gatherings under the shade of trees" Mr. M.K.D Kukuia recounted. This was evidenced during the sod cutting ceremony. This situation exposes both students and teachers to the vagaries of the weather. Finally, the Head master entreated the old students to make the 80th anniversary grand celebrations.

Mr. Jonathan Azasoo assured the school authorities that the project will be completed before the 80th anniversary celebrations of the school next year. He pledged the association's support towards the development of the school and urged the students to be disciplined at all times and concentrate on their education for the betterment of their future.

Architectural work on the project was done by Mr. Tasiame Hope, member of the 1982 year group.

The school choir was on hand to entertain the gathering with great selection of hymns.
