Minister calls for change in attitude in Central Region

Cape Coast, Feb. 16, GNA - Nana Ato Arthur, the Central Regional Minister, has appealed to people of the region to change their attitude and remain resolute to enable them overcome the challenges facing the region.

He urged them to attach much importance to the education of their children in order to enhance their chances of overcoming poverty, hunger, disease and ignorance in the region.

Nana Arthur said this at a flag raising ceremony to mark the official countdown of Ghana's 50th independence anniversary celebration, at Cape Coast.

Members of the security services, assembly members and school children as well as a cross-section of the public attended the ceremony.

Nana Arthur, who hoisted the flag at the ceremony dubbed "rally round the flag" at the fore-court of the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly, said the ceremony was designed to bestow on the people a sense of patriotism needed for the development of the country.

He said the development of the nation was a duty incumbent on all and therefore stressed the need for all to sacrifice and be committed to the struggle towards ensuring the rapid and smooth socio-economic development of the country.

Nana Arthur paid tribute to the founding fathers of the nation who, through their untiring efforts, won independence for Ghana.

He urged all to be part of the celebration of "this unique occasion" to demonstrate their love and commitment towards the country. A recorded speech of the first President of Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, on the eve of Independence Day was played during the ceremony to remind the gathering of the importance of the event.
