The Paramount Chief of Kologo, Naba Clifford Asobayire V has appealed to government and the public to support the Kologo health centre with Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to enable staff fight the deadly Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19).

The Kologo Naba who is alarmed by the increase in the number of COVID-19 infections in the country within the past few weeks said the health centre seriously lacks some important medical supplies and equipment, needing urgent support.

He said though the centre received some few supplies from himself and the local health authority, the support was not enough considering the pressure on the facility.

Speaking on the sideline on the measures he has put in place to combat the disease in his traditional area Monday, the chief told GhanaWeb that the situation at the health centre is bad and he is worried for the safety of the staff and his subjects who go there for medical attention.

“On the coronavirus fight, I have given some support to the Kologo health centre. I donated equipment such as Veronica buckets, Hand sanitizers, soap and tissue paper to them. It was my little support as a chief to help the nurses fight the disease and also protect themselves against it. I was told the health directorate also gave them support.

But as I speak to you now, some of these items have finished and the health centre is in very urgent need of support. I sometimes wonder how the staff are able to work in this difficult time without the PPEs. I really fear for them and for the people too hearing how fast the disease is spreading”. He stated.
On the measures, the chief said he has partnered some individuals and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOS) to sensitize the people about the disease and how to stay safe.

He mentioned that through his assistance, some selected individuals from the area have been trained to do home visits to educate the people about the deadly disease.

He expressed his appreciation to such individuals and the Dizem Taaba group for their immense support in the fight against the disease in Kologo and urged others to emulate the exemplary gesture.

Kologo Naba called on the citizenry to adhere to all preventive and precautionary measures to broaden the chances of eliminating the disease completely from the country.

He called on local bar and food vendors operating within the area to abide by the guidelines given by authorities and ensure hygienic environments to reduce the spread of the viral disease.
