Health workers in N/R demand equity and fairness

Tamale, June 01 GNA - The Northern Regional branch of the Health Workers Group has demanded equity and fairness from the government in line with the principle of "equal pay for work of equal value."

"Where the value of work of different health workers output is scientifically proven to be equal, the salary should be equal accordingly, irrespective of the job holders' tittles" the Group contended.

This was contained in a press release issued on Wednesday in Tamale and signed by the Branch Chairman, Mr.C.H Issah.

The statement said the struggle of the health workers group was not merely about salaries comparison or asking for equal salary for each and every health sector worker and about salary increases but was primarily about equity and fairness.

It added that the group had the conviction that the leadership, the government, the general public and all parties concerned were committed to solving the impasse once and for all. The group also called on its professional associations to remain solidly united in the course of the negotiations for better conditions of service and in the interest of industrial harmony.

The statement also commended the tireless efforts of leadership of the Health Workers Group that had resulted in a renewed hope and viewed it as a manifestation of the determination of the government in ensuring labour harmony and improving healthcare delivery in the country. 01 June 07
