Collapsed wall kills two children at Aflao

Aflao, May 28, GNA-Two children, out of a family of five, sleeping in the open as a result of high temperatures at Aflao, in the early hours of Monday, May 21, this year, were crushed to death when a wall collapsed on them. The two siblings of Malian parentage were named only as Aishetu, 12, a girl and Abdula 5, a boy.

Abdulai, 7, sustained injuries on the leg while Abdul Basir, 3, and their pregnant mother escaped injuries as they had got up to urinate when the incident occurred.

The family who were tight lipped about the accident were said to have hurriedly buried the two and had also not reported to the police. Sources close to the family told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the family on Sunday May 27, this year, as it was usual with them on hot nights, slept in the open, in their compound house premises at Zorokpome, behind the new premises of the Ghana Post at Aflao. He said in the early hours of Monday, Basir cried out to the mother to lead him to urinate and while the mother was taking her the wall collapsed on the others killing Abdula instantly.

The source said Aishetu who had injuries on the head and could not be resuscitated by buckets of water poured on her, died minutes later. Abdulai was hurt in the leg by debris of the fallen wall. The Aflao Police told the GNA that no report on the incident had been made.
