Agona Kwanyako (C/R), Jan 26, GNA - Churches have been urged to ensure the proper up bringing of children to enable them to become good future leaders.
He said Church leaders must help in the training of children "so that they would not depart from the way when they grow up" for the their own benefit and that of nation.
Mr Agyabeng was speaking at the inauguration and induction of the first Superintendent Minister of the Circuit of the Methodist Church at Agona Kwanyako.
He expressed concern about indiscipline on the part of some children, which had led to armed robbery, drug trafficking, stealing, school dropouts and other anti-social vices to the detriment of the country.
The DCE said the Church had an important role to play in ensuring discipline since the government alone could not shoulder the huge responsibility.
He stated that the creation of the Circuit had increased the burden of the leaders of the Church and urged them to be innovative to win more souls for Jesus Christ.
The Very Reverend John Antwi-Asenso, Superintendent Minister Designate, said he would work hard to ensure both the spiritual and physical development of members "even in the remote parts of the Circuit".
He noted that some of the societies did not have Church buildings and stressed the need to construct permanent structures for them. Rev Antwi-Asenso named some of the societies, which did not have Church buildings as Agona Asamoakrom, Agona Gyesi, Amanfoum and Nantifa, saying, the Circuit would raise about 500 million cedis to support the construction of the buildings.
He said the project would be financed through fund raising activities, offertories and donations from members. Rev Antwi-Asenso identified the construction of a Mission house as the main problem confronting the Circuit and said there were plans to start one at an estimated cost of 400 million cedis. The Right Reverend Jeremiah Morison, Bishop of the Winneba Diocese, advised members of the Church and the Superintendent Minister Designate, to work hard to raise more funds to purchase musical instruments. 26 Jan 04
