TESCON cautions NPP against postponement of Ashanti congress

Kumasi, Nov 03, GNA - The Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in three tertiary institutions in Ashanti on Thursday caution the regional and national executives of the party to desist from any attempt to postpone the Ashanti Regional delegates' congress scheduled for Saturday, November 5.

A statement signed by Mr David Osei, Mr Elijah Owusu-Afriyie and Mr Edward Richardson, presidents of the KNUST, Kumasi Polytechnic and University of Education Winneba (Kumasi Campus) TESCON issued in Kumasi said any attempt to postpone the congress would be resisted by every legitimate means possible.

The statement expressed the disapproval of "attempts being made by people in high places trying to postpone the regional congress for the fourth time".

It said the attempt was a "recipe for chaos and a calculated attempt to frustrate well-meaning contestants and delegates and thus enabling our political detractors to spread information about a rather disturbing canker known as 'monecracy' that is permeating our body politic which is very uncharacteristic of the NPP tradition".

The statement called on all contestants to be decorous in their utterances to prevent chaotic situation during the congress. It said the future of the party belongs to the youth and they would therefore do all in their power to safeguard it.
