The overlord of Mamprugu, Nayiri Nabohagu Mahami Sheriga II has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to trigger the needed processes aimed at creating two more constituencies in Walewale and Nalerigu-Gambaga respectively.

He noted that the creation of new constituencies from the existing ones, will facilitate the needed development in these areas as well as bring governance to the doorsteps of the people.

“May I appeal to the government is to consider dividing the Gambaga-Nalerigu constituency into two, namely; Nalerigu Constituency and Gambaga Constituency. This, in my humble opinion, will help bring governance closer to the people to accelerate the pace of development. Similar exercise should be extended to the Walewale Constituency”, he appealed at the maiden Regional Damba Festival in Nalerigu.

There have been agitations for a split of these two constituencies by virtue of the vast nature.

Nalerigu-Gambaga is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It is located in the North-East Region of Ghana.

The current member of Parliament for the constituency is Hajia Alima Mahama. In 2016, she was elected on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and won with over 53% of the votes.

The Walewale Constituency similarly, is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament by the first past the post system of election. Walewale is located in the West Mamprusi district of the North East Region of Ghana. The constituency was formerly called the West Mamprusi Constituency.

Its current MP is Dr Sagre Bambangi who won 26,431 representing 51.98% in the 2016 elections and serving his second term on the ticker of the NPP.
