Northerners are not idiots - Hassan Ayariga to NPP government

Hassan Ayariga Hassan Ayariga

Founder and Leader of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Hassan Ayariga says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government should know Northerners are not idiots so it should stop playing games with the minds of people with its promise of One Village One Dam.

Mr. Ayariga is wondering why the Nana Addo led administration and previous governments have failed to significantly develop the northern part of the country and bridge the gap between the North and the South of Ghana.

According to him, the north is lagging behind due to unfulfilled promises made to the people by previous and present administrations who have all shown little commitment to rapidly develop the area.

“If I was elected President, the Bolga-Bawku road would have been done by now. That is because I will be using it every time to the house. But when our own people refuse to vote for us, what do you expect? When you tell them to vote for you, they will say even if they vote for him he won’t win” he lamented.

Touching on government’s One Village One Dam initiative, the APC Founder described the promises made as ‘lies’ and deceitful aimed at only winning the 2016 election.

“Don’t deceive your people in the name of politics. This government is just interested in winning elections and not improving the lives of the people and that is what I don’t like. I come from the north and have suffered to see people grow alongside myself even though my dad was ok. I’ve seen people cry daily and not survive because of GH¢5. When it is time for voting, the northern brothers and sisters queue under the sun just to vote for people to come and develop them but what do they [politicians] do. They misuse the people. So what is the essence of northerners voting again” he wondered.

He maintained that the One Village One Dam promise which is expected to benefit the north has failed to meet its purpose.

“They have lied to our northern brothers and sisters and they are digging dugouts for them as dams. Destroying their farm lands they could have used to farm and benefited from it. They have given them out and they are playing their minds like idiots. The fact that we are not rich does not make us fools. The fact that the northern sector is not well to do does not make us idiots. People should not take us for granted” he said on A1 Radio in Bolgatanga monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

Recounting his defeat in the 2012 general elections, Hassan Ayariga who contested as a Presidential candidate on the ticket of the People’s National Convention bemoaned the refusal of his own kingsmen and constituents to vote for him describing the situation as unfortunate and prevailed upon voters in the north to strive to vote for one of their own.
