Presiding Members in the various Assemblies in the country have endorsed the re-election bid of the incumbent President of National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG).
At a News conference in Accra, the PMs praised the sense of industry of Mr Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La, Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Tema, saying that the times in which NALAG found itself fitted the leadership style of the Tema MCE.
“If you go across the country, Assembly Members are praising him for motorcycles that our current President secured for us to aid our movements. The reason is that, such quick achievement of results by our President who has only been in office for two years is almost unprecedented in the annals of NALAG,” Mr John Kwesi Buckman, Presiding Member of Secondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) told the News conference.
He said that because of such rare resourcefulness, the generality of Assembly Members are of the view that their current NALAG President should be retained.
“Our elders say that the ‘devil you know is better than the angel you do not know;’ in the case of NALAG right now, what applies is that ‘the angel you know is better than the devil you don’t know!” Mr Buckman added.
He therefore called on all PMs and NALAG delegates across the country to vote for the incumbent President.
NALAG goes to the polls on 12th June to elect new executives and its incumbent President, Mr Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La, is being contested by some two other people.
However, the incumbent President, who inherited his incumbency from his predecessor at the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, has been a front runner in the race with many expecting that he would win a landslide.
Last week, MMDCEs and Presiding Members thronged the Ho Municipal Assembly Hall to pledge their votes to Nii Annang-La when he officially launched his bid for re-election.
At the PMs’ News conference in Accra , Mr Joseph Korto, Presiding Member of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and Secretary of the Presiding Members’ Association of Greater Accra Region said Nii Annang-La had earned his vote because of sagacity that he had shown in tackling numerous court issues that plagued NALAG.
“Before he became NALAG President, the Association was being bogged down by lawsuits, but since becoming President, Nii Annang-La has managed to weave us through these issues, exhibiting rare problem solving skills.”
He called on Assembly Members to retain the President.
“I can assure you that as for us PMs, we are already settled in our minds that we are retaining Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La because he is the person to carry NALAG again, leadership is about the one who can carry and work hard alongside others to yield positive impact or achieve results such as lobbying for Motorbikes for Assembly Members across the country” Mr. Korto said.
