Private legal practitioner, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has slammed President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for failing to fight corruption as they promised.
Lawyer Ampaw says should the NPP lose the 2020 general elections, it would be because of their inability to deal with corruption as a government.
Speaking to Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm, the lawyer said the NPP has been weak in the fight against corruption. P[resident Akufo-Addo has disappointed Ghanaians. He has failed miserably”.
The NPP he noted campaigned on corruption, accused the previous NDC administration and appointees of being corrupt, however, they have not been able to crack the whip on those they accused of being corrupt.
"The NPP government rode on the back of corruption, they accused Mahama and his appointees of being corrupt. They attacked Mahama and yet, after winning power, they have not been able to deal with all the corrupt cases.”
Lawyer Ampaw said the "NPP is suffering similar attacks from the opposition all because they have exhibited failure in dealing with corruption.”
He asked Nana Addo to blamed himself should he be defeated in the 2020 polls.
He was reacting to the High Court’s conviction of some former National Communication Authority (NCAs) bosses under the erstwhile Mahama administration for causing financial loss to t5he state.
A former Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), William Tetteh Tevie, has been handed a six-year jail term by the High Court.
Mr. Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie, the former Board Chairman of the Authority, was also jailed for six years.
In the same case, the High Court also slapped a five-year jail term on Salifu Osman, a former National Security representative coordinator.
Justice Eric Kyei Baffour found them guilty of causing $4 million financial loss to the state.
Commenting on this, the lawyer said the government has wasted their years in just prosecuting one single case.
He was worried the government failed to resource the Special Prosecutor’s Office on time to enable them, deal with corruption cases.
