President Mahama has dared flagbrearer of the New Patriotic Party to a debate on what the former describes as several “contentious issues” raised by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to President Mahama, the opposition leader has on several occasions made some erroneous statements on national issues and he is ready to battle him any day if he avails himself.
“I am willing to debate Akufo-Addo any day...he has made a lot of contentious statements which I am willing to debate him on and I wish he was here that I could debate him today,” Mahama told TV3 in an interview Monday.
Power Crisis
The President also stated that the power crisis that bedeviled the country for almost three years was the most challenging part of his administration.
“The power crisis is one thing that has engaged the significant part of my administration…I have received more briefs from the power minister more than the finance minister so I think that is the most challenging part of my administration,” Mahama said.
The country’s energy crisis worsened as the Electricity Company of Ghana shed over 600 megawatts of power during peak and 350 megawatts during off peak periods.
The crisis led to job cuts in several companies while other companies which struggled to stay afloat shut down.
