Koforidua, June 1, GNA - The Eastern Regional Executive Committee of the CPP has called on the National Executive of the party to call off the proposed Special National Congress of the party scheduled for July 25, due to lack of funds, among other reasons.
In an 8-point resolution passed at the Committee's meeting at Koforidua, attended by constituency delegates, it was resolved that raising of over 300 million cedis for a "Special National Congress will not benefit the party but is a wasteful venture". The resolution recalled that at the last National Congress of the party at Legon in 2004, it was "unanimously resolved that no more unity talks should be held but that the doors of the party should remain open to those who will want to join the CPP, since the name CPP and Red Cockerel symbol are not negotiable."
It held that "no true Nkrumaist can honestly afford to stay outside the CPP and continue to hypocritically call himself as such", saying, "the PNC who also claimed to be Nkrumaists have no moral right to force the CPP to adopt their symbol of Coconut tree before joining the CPP." The resolution emphasized that the Committee disassociated themselves from any attempt to adopt the Coconut tree as the symbol of the "Great CPP, founded by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, a man of vision and action."
It advised all those who claim to be staunch members of the CPP but have formed the habit of making adverse statements about the party to desist from the practice, citing Mr. Mike Eghan's intention to form a new party. 01 June 06
