At a press conference in Dormaa-Ahenkro Mr. Agyemang-Manu, lauded the matured and decorous attitude of the electorate in the polls, saying they demonstrated patriotism and commitment to democracy. The MP acknowledged the role of the traditional authorities, Municipal Election Task Force, Municipal Peace Council, the Local Council of Churches, electoral staff, security agencies and the media and they contributed to the success of the election.

Mr. Agyemang-Manu, who is Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and PSI, said the New Patriotic Party still had the majority of voters to win the presidential run-off on December 28.

He appealed to traditional authorities in Dormaa-Ahenkro to impress on the leadership and members of the two contesting parties, NPP and NDC, to operate within the law.

"The figures released by the Electoral Commission clearly portray a lead for the NPP and all that is needed is for the party to galvanize the gains and work to win more votes in the run-off.

"Our members are disciplined and with the party's position in the first round at the back of their minds they would not do anything to derail the progress to victory", he said. 12 Dec 08
