Adansi-Asokwa (Ash), March 25, GNA – Unsuccessful Adansi-Asokwa parliamentary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Oduro Anokye, has announced his decision to contest the seat as an independent candidate.
This followed his rejection of the move by the party’s leadership to return the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. K. T. Hammond, unopposed.
Addressing a press conference at Adansi-Asokwa, he said the attempt to impose the MP on the party was unfair, undemocratic and lacked popular support among the party’s followers.
He said he decided to put himself up for election in response to the calls made to him by polling station officers of the party.
He had widely consulted the constituents and had come to a firm conclusion that the step he had taken was a “very good one”, Mr. Anokye added.
He said voters in the area were yearning for change and he stood a big chance of winning the seat.
He claimed he could better represent the people, articulate their concerns and bring development to them.
Mr. Anokye, a purchasing clerk working with Armajaro Company, a licensed cocoa buying company, pledged to be open, transparent and accountable.
