SOS Vocational Training students donate blood to TGH

Tema, Oct. 28, GNA - Students from Herman Gmeiner Vocational Institute of the Tema SOS Village on Thursday donated blood to support the Tema General Hospital.

The donation formed part of the institution's social responsibility, the organisers said, after 28 of the 41 students successfully donated various volumes of blood after undergoing screening.

The other 13 students, although willing, could not donate because they were found to have low haemoglobin levels. Speaking with the students after the exercise, the Principal Blood Donor Organiser of the Hospital Blood bank, Mr John Ahadjie, advised the public to always endeavour to eat balanced diet to enrich their blood content.

Mr Abdulai Adams, Vice Principal of the institute called for a new policy that would address the bureaucratic bottlenecks faced by donors in accessing blood when in need. The Tema blood bank, which has a capacity of 500 units is often faced with a high demand of blood from the female, maternity and children's wards.
