The Baamaiyi Sai Allah Fun Club, a youth base club, has organised a blood donation exercise to support the Koforidua Regional Hospital blood bank.

The exercise which was organised in the Zongo community for the first time attracted 53 donors who donated 53 units of blood.

Mr Rashid Bashiru, Secretary of the club said, the initiative came about when a member of the body fell sick and friends had to voluntarily donate blood to save him.

He said, the club had targeted 150 donors but was hopeful that the next exercise would attract many people.

He urged other Zongo communities to organise such activities to support lives.

Mr Phanuel Mordzifa, Regional Blood Programme Organiser said, the exercise was encouraging and a step in the right direction at the time when the blood bank is empty.

He said students from the senior high schools and tertiary schools who mostly stock the bank are on holidays.

He said the exercise by the club would encourage more people to encourage the habit of donating blood.

Mr Abubakar Alhassan, Public Relations Officer of Kwahu South District Education Directorate, a donor said, he started doing so 10 years ago and has donated not less than 30 times.

He said he first donated to support a friend who was in a critical condition.

He urged the public to show interest in donating blood and said, no one might know when one would be in dire need of blood.
