Management of ADB donates to UCC Medical School Project

Cape Coast, March 16, GNA - The Management of Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) on Friday presented a cheque for 100 million cedis to authorities of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) towards its Medical School Project.

Mr Edward Boakye-Agyemang, Managing Director of ADB, presenting the cheque said it was part of its corporate responsibility to assist in the country's socio-economic development.

He said the bank shared the vision with UCC to establish the Medical School to assist in the provision of quality health care for the people and provide employment to the youth.

Reverend Professor Adow Obeng, Vice Chancellor of UCC, receiving the cheque said the bank was supporting a good cause to provide quality education in the country.

He explained that students who would pursue the Medical School Programme would pay fees to address the problems of inadequate equipment for efficient and effective academic work.

The Vice Chancellor appealed to the management of the bank to assist with the construction and equipping of one of the School's laboratories to be named after it as "ADB Laboratory". He expressed appreciation for the gesture and called on other corporate bodies to assist the Medical School to ensure its smooth and successful take-off this year.

Professor Kobina Yankson, Chairman of the Medical School Project Implementation Committee, said the project was in line with the university's desire to assist in enhancing the achievement of the country's Millennium Development Goals on health.

He said it was also to supplement the work of other medical schools to enhance the success of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Professor Yankson pointed out that the training for the medical students would inculcate in them the spirit of patriotism and sympathy for the nation and the people.

"This orientation would make it difficult for them to join the brain drain for greener pastures after their course, "He added.
