LA General Hospital beset with problems

A Staff Nurse at the La General Hospital in Accra, Madam Evelyn Dowuona has drawn the attention of government to some problems facing the hospital which demands immediate attention.

She mentioned some of the problems as lack of beds, rooms, incubators, an emergency unit and Oral Re-hydration Therapy (ORT) centre.

Madam Dowuona, who made this known when she conducted the Ghana News Agency(GNA) round the hospital, said about 10 children now occupy the ward room which is meant for 5 children. In this regard, they normally pair them.

She also called for more rooms as well as an emergency unit at the children's block and also incubators.

Madam Dowuona revealed that there is no security point at the hospital and that there was the need to fence the entire block to ensure the safety of workers and patients.

Touching on the nurse-patient ratio, she said "there was no cause for alarm” and advised relatives, who come with their patients to bear with them while they make efforts to attend to them.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA, the La Mantse, Nii Kpobi Tettey Twuru II said his office will liaise with government to undertake a total refurbishment of the hospital.
