Fisherman in court for defilement

A 19-year old fisherman who allegedly impregnated 14-year old girl at Nungua has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court charged with defilement.

Kweku Atta, who allegedly had sex with the victim at the Nungua market at night and in his mother's room, has pleaded guilty.

The court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku remanded him into Police custody and deferred his sentence to May 30 and ordered the Police to ascertain the exact age of Attah who looks older than his age.

Prosecuting Detective Inspector Judith B. Asante said the complainant is the victim’s uncle, and live in the same house with Atta, the victim at Nungua.

During the month of April this year, Atta lured the victim to the Nungua market one night and on another time to his mother's room and had sexual intercourse with her on these two occasions

Prosecution said the complainant became curious of the relationship between the accused and victim and conducted his investigation.

During the investigations, the complainant got to know that accused had had sex with the victim on two occasions and reported the incident to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU)

The Unit offered the complainant with a medical form to attend hospital where it came to light after the medical examination that the victim was 11 weeks pregnant.

The Police then arrested Atta.
