A 21-year-old student has been remanded into prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for alleged theft of a motorbike.
Iddrisu Suleman, is said to have earlier on September 27, 2006, escaped from police custody where he was being held for a similar offence.
He is charged with stealing and escaping from lawful custody, and pleaded innocent. He was ordered to re-appear on July 18.
His accomplice, whose name was not given, is on the run.
Police Chief Inspector Silvanus D’amelda, told the court presided over by Mr. Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the complainant, Daniel Yaw Yabo-en returned home from work and found that his motorbike with registration number GW 5081 W was missing.
He therefore made a formal report to the KNUST police.
The prosecution said nine days later, one Samuel Animah was spotted riding it and he was arrested.
Asked how he came by the motorbike and he told the police that it was sold to him by Suleman and his fugitive colleague.
Animah said he made an initial payment of GH¢200.00 and pledged to make available the remaining amount after he had received the valid documents covering it.
At the police station, he baited Suleman with a call to come for the rest of the money and he was apprehended.
Police Lance Corporal Francis Essel identified him as the very suspect who absconded whilst in their custody.**
